Bridgestone to Sell Carbon Black Business in Thailand to Tokai Carbon
Bridgestone has signed an agreement to transfer Bridgestone Carbon Black (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. and Thai Tokai Carbon Product Co., Ltd., aligning with Bridgestone’s mid-term plan to refocus on core businesses. Multiple trade outlets report the deal’s structure (Tokai Carbon/TCP) and note minimal impact on Bridgestone’s current fiscal-year outlook; financial terms were not disclosed.
Tokyo, Japan – Bridgestone Corporation has announced an agreement to sell its carbon black manufacturing and sales subsidiary, Bridgestone Carbon Black (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (BSCB), to Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. and Thai Tokai Carbon Product Co., Ltd.
This move is part of Bridgestone’s broader strategy to enhance global business quality by adapting to a rapidly changing environment and focusing on “growth with quality.” The company is streamlining operations across its premium tire value chain—from material development to sales—while emphasizing its high-performance “Dan-Totsu” products.
Bridgestone plans to rebuild its in-house carbon black capabilities in areas where it can collaborate with global partners like Tokai Carbon, who bring specialized expertise and resources. The two companies are also working together on a joint recycling project to produce carbon black from used tires.
By transferring BSCB, Bridgestone aims to strengthen its mid-to-long-term competitiveness by leveraging Tokai Carbon’s supply systems and technical know-how. The company will continue to co-create in recycling and other strategic areas to build a more sustainable supply chain.
Bridgestone will maintain in-house production of strategic carbon black—critical to its core competencies in material technologies—for premium and motorsports tires, as well as sustainability initiatives. These operations will be handled by Asahi Carbon Co., Ltd., a Bridgestone group company in Japan.
Through these efforts, Bridgestone seeks to enhance its competitive edge and accelerate value creation.
