Gunvor & New Energy Announce Strategic Collaboration on Pyrolysis Oil Supply
Intro:
Gunvor, a global leader in commodity trading, has entered into a strategic collaboration with New Energy (NE-TECH Group) to procure pyrolysis oil from tyre recycling facilities in Hungary. The partnership aims to integrate more circular feedstocks into refining operations and accelerate the adoption of chemically recycled oils.
Scope of the Collaboration & Strategic Rationale
Under the agreement, New Energy’s Dunaharaszti plant and future NE-TECH facilities (e.g., in Karcag) will supply pyrolysis oil to Gunvor for refining as a substitute for fossil raw materials. This collaboration aligns with Gunvor’s push into circular economy products and NE-TECH’s ambition to scale pyrolysis-based chemical recycling.
Gunvor’s Circular Naphtha & Pyrolysis Oil trading team emphasized that NE-TECH operates full-scale 24/7 systems, enabling reliable feedstock supply with emission reduction benefits. NE-TECH’s CEO noted their technology optimization and product qualification for high standards were key to unlocking this collaboration.
This partnership marks a growing convergence between chemical recyclers and commodity traders, bridging waste streams and traditional supply chains toward a lower-carbon future.
Gunvor, one of the world’s leading independent commodities trading companies, and New Energy (member of the NE-TECH Group), a Budapest-based technology company specialising in the advanced chemical recycling of end-of-life tyres, have announced the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement.
New Energy will provide Gunvor with pyrolysis oil from its waste tyre recycling plant in Dunaharaszti, Hungary, as well as future NE-TECH facilities in Karcag, Western Europe, and regions beyond the EU.
Pyrolysis oil is intended to serve as a feedstock for refineries, substituting traditional fossil-based raw materials. Utilizing chemically recycled oil contributes to reducing carbon emissions and supports the core principles of circular economy models by facilitating material reuse and minimizing waste.
Ricardo Cordeiro de Sousa, Circular Naphtha and Pyrolysis Oil trader at Gunvor, commented, “On top of conventional products, Gunvor is committed to increasing its support for the ‘circular economy’ and the Energy Transition. NE-TECH has a unique technology that operates on a full industrial scale, 24/7, and together we can offer both economic advantages and environmental benefits. We look forward to working with New Energy and sourcing products from its current and new facilities in Europe.”
Viktor Varadi, CEO of NE-TECH Group, concluded, “This partnership underlines our successful development and optimization of our processes to maximize economic efficiency of our plant and technology. We are proud to have achieved this level, where we qualify our products to the high standards of Gunvor and partner with one of the world’s leading independent commodities trading companies. This collaboration will result in the production of more environmentally friendly products made by the petrochemical industry.”
