Nexen Tire Agreement with LD Carbon
Nexen Tire has agreed with LD Carbon to source recovered carbon black (rCB), reinforcing its strategy to manufacture tires with sustainable and circular materials.
NEXEN TIRE has announced that it has signed a long-term supply agreement with LD Carbon (LDC) Co., Ltd. This partnership aims to enhance the use of LDC’s sustainable materials, allowing NEXEN TIRE to improve its eco-friendly tire manufacturing capabilities.
The incorporation of recovered carbon black is critical, as carbon black is a key component in tire production that contributes significantly to a tire’s strength and durability. By replacing petroleum-based carbon black with recycled alternatives, NEXEN TIRE not only maintains product performance but also makes strides toward environmental sustainability. The company has gradually increased its use of recovered carbon black, and with this new agreement, it aims further to accelerate the transition to environmentally friendly raw materials.
NEXEN TIRE plans to source recovered carbon black from its production facilities worldwide, including those in China, the Czech Republic, and Korea. The company is focused on developing a circular resource structure that ensures a steady supply of recycled materials, integrating them into its global manufacturing processes. This initiative enhances sustainability throughout the value chain, from raw material procurement to manufacturing, aligning with NEXEN TIRE’s commitment to improving global sustainable management practices.
By strengthening its circular supply chain, NEXEN TIRE expects to boost its competitiveness on a global scale. The European Union’s planned Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will require the use of sustainable materials in tire manufacturing. By proactively establishing a sustainable raw material supply chain, NEXEN TIRE is well-positioned to enhance its competitiveness, especially in Europe, where the company accounts for approximately 40% of its total sales.
“Expanding the usage of recovered carbon black is a strategic step that demonstrates our commitment to ESG management and proactive response to global environmental concerns,” said Travis Kang, Global CEO of NEXEN TIRE. “We will continue to accelerate the transition to eco-friendly materials and establish a tyre manufacturing system with a low environmental impact, from production to disposal.”
