VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp Launches Tyre-Derived Oil Offtake Consultation

Intro:
In a major step forward for circular economy innovation, VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp has launched a market consultation for the offtake of tyre-derived oil (TDO). The call invites expressions of interest from industrial partners to support the commercialization of tyre-to-oil feedstocks, signaling increasing momentum in tyre pyrolysis and recycled feedstock markets.

What the Consultation Involves & Strategic Context

VTTI’s consultation, initiated on September 9, 2025, asks interested parties to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by October 17, 2025. It seeks to engage stakeholders in co-developing the TDO offtake strategy, defining sector fit, and aligning with the broader project vision.

The TyreLoop Antwerp project is built around a pyrolysis plant slated to process approximately 60,000 tonnes of waste tyres annually, generating about 11,000 tonnes of TDO along with recovered carbon black (rCB). Powered by Pyrum Innovations’ technology, the plant emphasizes high-value secondary raw materials and industrial feedstock replacement.

VTTI views this effort as part of its goal to derive 50% of its earnings by 2028 from transitional and sustainable energy sources. The consultation thus represents not just a transactional step but a signal of VTTI’s broader decarbonization trajectory.

Press Release Below:

Rotterdam, the Netherlands — VTTI B.V., a global leader in energy infrastructure, has officially launched the market consultation for Tyre-Derived Oil (TDO) as part of the VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp project at its existing terminal VTTI Antwerp, Belgium. This initiative represents a significant step forward in VTTI’s strategy to address the global waste challenge and advance the energy transition.

The consultation, starting 9 September 2025, invites interested market participants for the offtake of TDO to submit an Expression of Interest by 18:00 CEST on 17 October 2025, initiating the first phase of commercial engagement.

EVP Growth, Tom Smeenk commented: “With VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp, we are taking a meaningful step toward turning tyres into resources – supporting industrial decarbonization while tackling a global waste challenge. This market consultation is an opportunity to engage with interested parties and co-develop circular solutions that make real impact.”

SVP VTTI Belgium, Yvan Tavernier commented: “VTTI Antwerp is continuously investing in the transformation of its terminal towards greener and more sustainable products. The launch of VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp marks an important step forward, as it integrates advanced recycling technologies that allow us to reduce waste and lower our carbon footprint. This initiative not only enhances our portfolio but also reinforces our leadership in sustainable energy solutions.”

The market consultation aims to identify relevant sectors for the use of TDO and to determine the best strategic fit through a balanced offtake portfolio that aligns with the project’s objectives and VTTI’s long-term vision.

This development supports VTTI’s ambition to derive 50% of its earnings from transitional and sustainable energies by 2028, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding global infrastructure that drives the circular economy and energy transition.

The project was first announced in partnership with Pyrum Innovations in February 2025. For background information on the plant’s concept and technology, please see the initial press release here.

VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp involves the construction of a state-of-the-art pyrolysis plant capable of recycling up to 60kt of waste tyres per year. The facility will produce approximately 11kt of TDO annually, alongside recovered carbon black (rCB). Leveraging advanced pyrolysis technology from Pyrum Innovations, the project will deliver high-value secondary raw materials that can replace virgin fossil-based feedstocks in industrial applications.
